DeepSeek app, Harness, web chat, and model weights are different

The word “download” can refer to several products that serve different purposes. Choose the product based on what you want to do rather than downloading the first file that includes the DeepSeek name.

DeepSeek – AI Assistant

This is the standard consumer application for Android, iPhone, and iPad. It provides the familiar DeepSeek chat experience, including prompts, file uploads, web search, and account-based conversation history.

DeepSeek Harness

Harness is DeepSeek’s official desktop agent for Windows and Apple silicon Macs. It is designed for longer tasks involving local workspaces, documents, data, code, tools, plugins, commands, and background workflows. It requires more caution than an ordinary chat application because it can act on files and systems that you authorize it to access.

DeepSeek web chat

The browser version lets you use DeepSeek without installing a mobile or desktop application. It is the simplest choice for Linux users, Intel Mac owners, shared computers, or anyone who only needs the standard chat experience.

DeepSeek model weights

Model weights are files used by developers and technical users who want to deploy a model through their own inference software. Downloading weights does not install the DeepSeek chat application, and the files may require substantial storage, memory, and computing resources.

DeepSeek API

The API is for developers who want to connect software, coding agents, or business workflows to DeepSeek models. You create an API key through the official platform and do not need to install the consumer app.

How to download DeepSeek on Android

Google Play is normally the simplest installation route because it handles compatibility checks, signing verification, installation, and future updates.

Open the official DeepSeek Google Play listing.
Confirm that the app is named DeepSeek – AI Assistant.
Verify that the listing identifies the developer as DeepSeek. The package ID in the official URL is com.deepseek.chat.

The public Google Play page does not display one universal minimum Android version for every device. Google Play evaluates the phone or tablet, operating-system release, architecture, region, and current app build before offering installation.

How to download the official DeepSeek APK

DeepSeek’s official download page also provides an Android download route hosted through a DeepSeek-controlled domain. Use this only when you specifically need the official direct package and cannot use Google Play.

Open the official DeepSeek download page in your Android browser.

Confirm that the download remains on a deepseek.com or download.deepseek.com domain.
Open the downloaded package.
If Android requests permission to install apps from that browser or file manager, grant it only for this installation.
Disable that sideloading permission again after installation when it is no longer needed.

Do not obtain a DeepSeek APK from a mirror, mod site, forum, Telegram channel, file-sharing service, search advertisement, or a page offering an “unlocked” or modified edition. Do not disable Google Play Protect permanently to install an unverified file.

The official App Store identifier is 6737597349. Matching the identifier and seller helps distinguish the real listing from applications that merely use DeepSeek in their names or descriptions.

How to download DeepSeek for Windows

The current official desktop product for Windows is DeepSeek Harness. It is an open-source preview agent, not simply a Windows edition of the mobile AI Assistant.

Open the official DeepSeek download page.
Find the DeepSeek Harness desktop section.
Select the Windows download labeled Windows (64-bit).
Open the downloaded installer.
Review the publisher and source shown by Windows before continuing.
Complete the installation and launch DeepSeek Harness.
Choose a dedicated workspace and review every permission request before allowing access to files or commands.

DeepSeek’s public landing page identifies the installer as a 64-bit Windows build but does not publish a single minimum Windows release on that page. If the installer reports that the device is unsupported, use DeepSeek in the browser rather than downloading an unofficial replacement.

If Microsoft Defender SmartScreen displays a warning, first confirm that the installer came directly from the official DeepSeek download page and inspect the publisher information. Do not ignore an unknown-publisher warning blindly, and do not disable SmartScreen or antivirus protection permanently.

How to download DeepSeek for Mac

DeepSeek’s official macOS download is DeepSeek Harness. The download page currently specifies two requirements:

An Apple silicon Mac.
macOS 13 or later.

Open the official DeepSeek download page.
Select the macOS option in the Harness section.
Confirm that the Mac uses Apple silicon through Apple menu → About This Mac.
Open the downloaded file and follow the installation process.
Launch Harness and grant only the file or workspace access required for the intended task.

The official page does not list an Intel Mac build. Intel Mac users should use DeepSeek web chat rather than downloading an application from an unrelated website or attempting to use an unverified conversion.

If macOS blocks the application, recheck the download source and publisher before using Apple’s approved process for opening an application from an identified developer. Do not disable Gatekeeper globally or run a command that removes security attributes from an unverified file.

Can you download DeepSeek for Linux?

As of October 13, 2026, DeepSeek’s official download page does not offer a prebuilt Linux desktop package. It does not list a .deb, .rpm, AppImage, Snap, or Flatpak edition.

The simplest official option is the DeepSeek web app. Developers can also run the open-source Harness Web UI if they understand the additional setup and preview-software risks.

With Node.js installed, the official Harness repository documents this command:

The command starts a local web interface, but it does not automatically run a DeepSeek model entirely offline. You must configure a supported model service, and prompts may be sent to that model provider. Review the official Harness repository and its safety notice before granting access to a workspace.

Use DeepSeek without downloading anything

Open chat.deepseek.com in a current browser to use the standard hosted DeepSeek service without installing a mobile or desktop package.

The browser option is useful when:

You use Linux or an Intel Mac.
You are working on a device where software installation is restricted.

Harness can work with local workspaces and may be able to:

Read, create, edit, move, or delete files that it is allowed to access.
Run model-generated code and terminal commands.
Use the network and external model services.
Install or run plugins and other extensions.
Analyze repositories and run tests.
Perform scheduled or background workflows.

DeepSeek’s own safety notice describes Harness as experimental developer-preview software that has not undergone a security audit and should not be treated as production-ready. Approval prompts and sandboxing can reduce risk, but they do not guarantee that an authorized operation cannot damage or disclose accessible information.

Before using Harness:

Start with a disposable environment, dedicated folder, virtual machine, or container when practical.
Back up every file the agent can access.
Grant the least possible file, network, and system access.
Remove passwords, API keys, private keys, tokens, and confidential documents.

Harness also has a separate privacy policy. Its treatment of information can differ depending on whether you use DeepSeek’s official model service or configure a custom third-party model provider.

How to download official DeepSeek model weights

Developers who want to run a model through their own inference software should begin with the verified DeepSeek organization on Hugging Face or the official DeepSeek GitHub organization.

This is different from downloading the DeepSeek application:

A listing on Microsoft Store, Chrome Web Store, SourceForge, an APK site, or another recognized marketplace is not automatically an official DeepSeek product. Treat it as third-party software unless DeepSeek links to it from an official product or download page.

A secure-looking domain, HTTPS connection, app-store presence, or antivirus scan is not by itself proof that a package is authentic or risk-free. Verify the source, publisher, package identifier, and product purpose together.

What information can the app process?

DeepSeek’s consumer Privacy Policy says its services may process account information, prompts, voice input, uploaded files, photos, feedback, chat history, device information, IP address, diagnostic information, usage information, and approximate location derived from the IP address.

The official Apple listing’s developer-provided privacy disclosure says data linked to the user may include location, contact information, user content, search history, identifiers, usage data, and diagnostics. App-store privacy labels are supplied by the developer and should not be treated as an independent security audit.

DeepSeek’s policy says the consumer services are not designed or intended to process sensitive personal data. Do not upload passwords, verification codes, financial credentials, medical files, identity documents, precise location records, private keys, confidential client information, or another person’s sensitive information simply because the app is installed on your own device.

The official Android APK will not install

Confirm that the file came from DeepSeek’s official download page.
Delete any partial download and obtain a fresh copy.

How to update or uninstall DeepSeek

Update the mobile app

Update the Android app through Google Play and the iPhone or iPad app through Apple’s App Store. Store updates preserve the normal signing chain and reduce the risk of replacing the official application with an unrelated package.

If you installed an official direct APK, return to DeepSeek’s official download page for future packages. Mixing APK sources can cause signature conflicts or expose the device to a modified build.

Update DeepSeek Harness

Use the update option offered inside the installed product when available, or return to the official DeepSeek download page for the current desktop installer. Do not replace the official installation with a third-party desktop wrapper.

Uninstall DeepSeek

Android: use the app information page or Google Play listing and select Uninstall.
iPhone or iPad: remove the application through the Home Screen or iPhone Storage settings.
